Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) seeks a visionary and accomplished nursing leader to serve as its next Senior Vice President / Chief Nursing Executive (SVP/CNE). This is a unique career opportunity best suited for an individual strongly compelled to participate with an energetic leadership team to transform healthcare for the people of Memphis and southwest Tennessee.
The second largest private employer in the county, MLH employs over 13,000 associates (employees) and partners with over 2,400 providers. The system has a $5 billion economic impact on Shelby County, supporting nearly 35,000 additional jobs in the community and contributing an average of $226 million annually in Community Benefit (charity care, Medicare/TennCare shortfall and medical education). Net revenue is approximately $2 billion. Across the MLH system there are five adult, short-term, acute care hospitals that account for over 1,600 beds. The largest and most comprehensive of these is Methodist University Hospital, a 617-bed facility located in the midtown medical center.
Reporting to the system Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the SVP/CNE serves as the top executive nursing leader for the system and is a member of the MLH executive leadership team. The SVP/CNE has accountability for developing and implementing standards of nursing practice to ensure delivery of quality patient care in compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations, laws, standards, and protocols. The SVP/CNE collaborates on the development and implementation of system-wide nursing initiatives, including consistent review of clinical practices to ensure patients receive care that aligns with evidence-based practice. The SVP/CNE will be innovative in ways that technology can transform patient care to remain the healthcare system of choice while capturing the needs of the workforce for the present and future.
This executive position is a mission-critical role dedicated to the continued delivery of excellent patient care in a highly complex, urban medical center, which serves as the tertiary specialty acute care health provider for the region. Special focus will be on care transformation, providing care in a cost-effective and efficient manner; operations improvements in patient flow, length-of-stay reduction, and readmissions reduction; while providing a stimulating, rewarding work environment for nurses and patient care services staff at all levels.
The SVP/CNE will crucially ensure that nursing remains a central pillar in MLH's mission to enhance health and well-being through high-quality, innovative and compassionate care. The ideal candidate will establish themself as a visible and approachable individual who is a transparent, proactive, and highly effective communicator. They will serve as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, playing a critical role in proactively developing and optimizing relationships throughout the organization and continuing to maintain a culture that actively seeks excellence in healthcare delivery. This position serves as a role model for nurses throughout the organization and promotes an awareness and understanding of high-quality outcomes, cost effective operations, and service excellence. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader, comfortable leading and supporting change in a highly complex and demanding environment.
