Position Summary
The Program Assistant will provide administrative assistance to SBC’s Director of Economic Empowerment, the Economic Empowerment team, and the Sierra Jobs First team and will assist with achieving program/project goals. This position requires an organized, reliable, and motivated individual with excellent communication skills who will be responsible for a range of tasks including: supporting outreach, research, and communication efforts; building relationships with key stakeholders; ensuring inclusivity in convening processes; attending, taking minutes and helping with the facilitation of monthly meetings; tracking participation and response rates for community engagement activities; assisting with research for grant applications; coordinating community outreach events; and various administrative functions supporting SBC’s Economic Empowerment and Sierra Jobs First teams.
We are looking for a mission/values-driven team member to support SBC’s mission and who has an understanding of or interest in the issues affecting the Sierra Nevada region.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative support to the Director of Economic Empowerment and the Economic Empowerment team including planning and coordinating various community outreach meetings, travel planning, responding to email, answering program-related phone calls, tracking program expenditures, etc.
- Attend all required meetings (including in-person meetings), track attendees, and take meeting minutes and notes
- Assist with meeting facilitation and required tasks
- Follow up with meeting outcomes and assignments, and track accountability
- Work closely with Project Navigators and Coordinators to assist in data collection, research, and development of outreach materials, ensuring inclusion of disinvested communities
- Assist with tracking projects, including applications and awards for additional funding from other sources
- Perform other duties and execute special projects as assigned

Requirements
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree or 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in the nonprofit, private, or public sector
- Must have a positive attitude with ability to work independently as well as with a team, to learn on the job, and to be flexible and adaptable
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including professional communication by email and phone
- Proficiency in being collegial and collaborative; and forming and maintaining partnerships with diverse stakeholders and constituencies
- Experience with conflict management
- Knowledge of community issues and ability to communicate about climate, transportation, land use, and/or public health and planning standards (and/or willingness to learn)
- Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to prepare research reports
- Database management skills
- Computer literate
- Proficient with MS Office
- Experience with Google Suite a plus
- Knowledge of GIS and database systems desired
- Must be able to follow internal control and organizational policies and procedures
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- A preemployment background screening will be performed
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; clean DMV record; a reliable, properly registered personal vehicle; and liability insurance with the state required insurance minimums
Willingness to travel, including overnight
