Position Description:
The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a nurse practitioner to join the inpatient Palliative Care Program. Palliative Care specialists provide pain and symptom management, psychosocial support, and advance care planning for patients and families facing serious illness. The inpatient palliative care NP is responsible for working as a consultant throughout the hospital, visiting directly with patients and families and offering recommendations to the primary healthcare team.

Our interdisciplinary team collaborates to provide expert patient- and family-centered palliative care focused on the patient’s psychosocial, spiritual, and medical needs. Consultations cover all acute care settings, including oncology floors, general medical-surgical floors, specialty units, and critical care units.

The NP will provide expert symptom management and guide crucial discussions with patients and families to promote a personalized, comprehensive care plan that aligns with patient goals. The NP will also participate in daily inter-professional palliative care team rounds to support the interdisciplinary practice model and to facilitate team communication and collaboration.

Additional Information:
Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm - No weekends or on-call requirements.

Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s prepared Nurse Practitioner with Acute Care certification
• Current Pennsylvania license (or eligible to obtain)
• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a nurse practitioner in the acute care setting is strongly preferred
• Training/experience in palliative care, hospice, or geriatrics is preferred but not required
• Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with a wide variety of medical and surgical services
