Description
The Mountain School of Milton Academy seeks a School Nurse. This position could be part-time hourly without benefits or could be full-time exempt with generous benefits. The School Nurse would begin work in August 2026.
The Mountain School is a semester-long, residential academic program for high school juniors set on four hundred acres in central Vermont. Each fall and spring semester, students from across the country join our campus to take academic classes, participate in our farm and outdoor programs, and build a diverse and interdependent community of scholars.
The School Nurse will:
Review students’ medical records and follow up with families to ensure a complete medical file prior to the start of each semester
Manage prescription medications for students throughout the semester
Train faculty to support both prescription and OTC medication distribution and documentation
Train faculty in basic student care and managing certain emergency situations
Responsibilities could also include:
Assess and treat, within scope of practice, or triage to more definitive care, student health needs; organize medical appointments
Maintain health and wellness space
Serve as a member of the Student Support Team
Communicate with faculty about student health and, as needed, with families
Document consultation, care, and other health services provided
Respond to calls from faculty during on-call hours
Compensation depends upon experience and likely falls in the range of $28-35/hour. Full time employment comes with a generous benefit package.

Requirements
Requirements of the position:
Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Vermont (an NLC state)
Good communication skills, high degree of organization
Willingness to work in a collaborative, student-focused environment
The ability and motivation to work independently in an efficient and focused manner
Flexibility in schedule, availability to work some weekends and evenings
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the school nurse must be able to maneuver on uneven ground, go up and down stairs, carry and lift up to 25 pounds, and be able perform daily repetitive motions. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Background check required.
