Department Overview
The Knight Cancer Institute Oncology Treatment Unit is a 55-chair outpatient infusion unit that serves the diverse needs of oncology patients, including solid tumor, hematological malignancy, bone marrow-transplant, benign hematology, as well as off-service patients. The infusion staff works closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidenced-based, patient-centered nursing care. This position also comes with great benefits! Patient Populations:
• Hematologic Malignancies: Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, Allogeneic/ Autologous Transplant, CAR-T, TIL, DLI, etc.
• Medical Oncology: Sarcoma, Head and Neck, Breast, Lung, GI/GU, Prostate, etc.
• Classical Hematology: Bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, anemias, white blood cell disorders, platelet disorders.
- Variable work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Working conditions that include multi-tasking, multiple interruptions, and environmental exposures such as noise, human tissues/fluids, hazardous medications, or radiation.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs. independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.
- Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids.
- Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel.
- Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax.
- Equipment: Must be able to use medical and non-medical unit equipment required to perform essential functions of this position.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years hospital nursing experience in hematology/oncology and/or bone marrow transplant required. BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- ONS Chemotherapy/ Biotherapy provider card upon hire.
- Oregon Health and Science University NCI Collaborative Systemic Cancer Therapies for the Oncology Nurse course.
- Oregon Health and Science University NCI Collaborative 2-year renewal course.
- The RN must hold one Professional certification or meet Commission on Cancer education requirements:
- Current cancer-specific certification in the nurse's specialty (OCN, BMTCN, etc.) by an accredited certification program.
- Completion of 36 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours each accreditation cycle, per Commission on Cancer requirements. Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferredCurrent, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse LicenseBLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS must not expire during orientation Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Additional Details
Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
