Description
Newberry College invites applications for the position of Dean of Nursing, a visionary and student-centered leader who will advance excellence in nursing education consistent with the College’s Lutheran mission — so that all may flourish. The Dean provides academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for the Department of Nursing, supporting faculty, students, and staff in achieving the highest standards of professional preparation and compassionate care.
Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will oversee the daily operations of the Nursing program, contribute to long-term planning, and ensure compliance with state and national accreditation standards. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality, integrity, and growth of Newberry’s Nursing program while fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Academic Leadership & Administration
Provide leadership for all programs within the division, ensuring excellence in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Support the Vice President in strategic planning, program development, and resource management.
Maintain compliance with the South Carolina Board of Nursing and CCNE.
Lead evaluation of staffing, NCLEX preparation practices, curriculum, policies, student and faculty handbooks, and other critical aspects of the program, ensuring the highest quality, professionalism, and consistency in nursing education.
Faculty & Student Support
Mentor and evaluate faculty, promoting professional development and excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, inclusion, and belonging within the division.
Support recruitment, retention, and success of students through advising, mentoring, and program engagement.
Promote student learning that integrates clinical expertise, ethical decision-making, and compassionate care.
Accreditation & Assessment
Lead ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
Lead and direct preparation of reports and documentation for accreditation, program review, and licensure boards.
Ensure adherence to institutional policies and standards of practice in nursing education.
Communication & Institutional Engagement
Represent Newberry College Nursing within the institution, the profession, and the broader community.
Cultivate relationships with healthcare organizations to expand partnerships, internships, and service opportunities.
Support Newberry College’s mission of developing educated, ethical, and service-minded health care professionals.
Requirements
Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP or PhD) required. Current, unencumbered RN license (South Carolina or eligible). Demonstrated leadership in nursing education and program administration. Experience with accreditation, assessment, and curriculum development. Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and the mission of Newberry College. Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or similar certification. Experience in faculty mentoring and student success initiatives. Knowledge of contemporary issues in nursing education and healthcare delivery. Evidence of collaborative leadership and partnership building.
